Welcome to the COG website!
Welcome to the Central Ontario Geocachers Resource. This site is intended to be a reference for geocachers
like ourselves that are from the Central-Ontario Area, and have found
that there simply aren't enough geocaching resources available to us to get the most out of your GPSr. If you are looking for geocaching information for the Province of
Ontario, please visit the Ontario
Geocachers Association website.
For geocachers from Bradford in the south, to Bracebridge in the north.
From Lake Simcoe in the east, to Collingwood in the West and beyond, we strive
to bring you geocaching information for your area.
Geocaching has provided so much to our lives by allowing
us to see places that we wouldn't have otherwise encountered, given us the
encouragement to get active, and get outdoors, and provided a new outlook
on our world, and what role we play in it. Think of this page as our little
way of giving back to the geocaching community.
Feel
free to provide us with your feedback! The best way to do this is join our forums. We want this to be a geocaching
resource page by and for the geocachers in our area, and realize the
importance of making sure this page brings the geocaching information
that YOU are interested in.

A buzz is in the air, the sun is
shining, birds chirping and Geocachers sneaking around Central
Ontario. This is a
wonderful time of year to be an outdoorsperson; a time when the snowshoes get
stowed and boots are replaced by much lighter footwear. This is also a time of year when we notice
the covering effects of the winter’s snow.

Bending tree (GC384) is Ontario's second oldest geocache, hid in February of 2001, by a man and his dog testing out their new navigation system for their boat.
The hider of the cache, Robert Oakden, looked up the game after receiving his GPS, and was disappointed that there were none in the area. He didn't feel like driving to Toronto to try out his GPS, so he hid bending tree while out walking Indy, his dog. After placing the coordinates on the geocaching web site, he was amazed that the first hits came within a couple of days, and was ecstatic that everyone found the cache with great ease. He learned then that this GPS was in-fact a very serious navigational tool.

In honour of COG’s first ever “Cache of the Month” we thought
that we should honour the first geocache in our region. With 132 visits to the cache at the time of
this article it might not be the most active cache in central Ontario, but it is the oldest. Bending
Tree waypoint GC384
was placed in an area known as the “Copeland
Forest” on the 26th
of February 2001. The cache was placed
by Robert & Indy (dog). Bending Tree
is the second oldest active cache in Ontario
behind only Deer
BaitGC2B4
adopted by Peter Ferguson & kdkk17

I've searched for” jpjohnsn
